Walteria Area Housing

Walteria is an area consisting of a variety of homes for sale. The area was annexed by the city of Torrance in 1928, prior to that Torrance was considered to be a suberb of Walteria. A  good portion of the Single family homes are single story craftsman bungalow type homes built in the era 1910-1925  period. Homes in  the Victoria Knolls tract were built in the post war time period 1955-1956 focusing on veterans, Country Hills with larger homes was built the 1974 -1975 time period to the present on a one at a time basis. Walteria basically has all types of housing and Real Estate from Rental Apartments, Town homes, Condominium Apartment style, Commercial and Industrial Real Estate. Hawthorne Blvd runs through Walteria in a north - south direction thus dividing Walteria to an east and west section. The housing types on the west side are diverse while the homes fo sale on the east are primarily single family homes, one and two stories. Lot sizes vary from 1000-15,000 square feet, most are within the 5000-7000 square foot range.

Walteria Geography

Walteria is a area of basically flat terrain. The area was originally ranch area and farm land. The land was used for livestock grazing mostly on the hillside area and growing crops on the flat portion. Problems of drainage from the winter rains resulted in the formation of a lake which became known to residents as Lake Walteria. Because of this condition the land had to be filled before substantial housing could be built sometimes the fill was inadequate because  expansive adobe soil was used which resulted in cracks in housing structures. The east portion contains  more rolling terrain with hills, winding streets, and city views. There are two main business corridors along Hawthrone Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway.

Walteria is know to Real Estate Agents as MLS area 125. Walteria is south of Torrance airport (Zamperini field). It is bounded by Pacific Coast Highway on the north, Via Montana on the east, Vista Montana and Newton St. on the west. On the south It bounded by city limits of Palos Verdes.
