Southwood Housing
The Southwood tract is a popular area west of Hawthorne Boulevard. It is a high demand popular neighborhood predominately consisting of single family homes. The typical home was built in the 1955-1956 time period by Milton Kauffman and Don Wilson Builders with a square footage living area between 1100 -1400 Square feet, Three bedrooms, and 2-3 bathrooms. Most lots are between 5000-5500 square feet, these homes were all single story homes. Over the years some of the home owners in this area having a need for more living area have created additions some with second and third stories. New larger homes have been built in the area particular during recent housing boom years, but since vacant land has become non existent older homes were torn down and replaced with a newer larger modern homes.

Southwood Geography
Southwood was built on mostly flat terrain and view homes are scarce. One of major reasons for purchasing homes in this area is the fact that it is in the West High School District which has been recognized as one of the top schools in the area and has won many scholastic awards. House values have remained very stable in this area.The area also contains Condominium and Condo/Townhome and Apartment complexes. The majority of apartment buildings were built on both sides of Anza Boulevard. Most commercial properties are found on along Torrance and Sepulveda Boulevards and the west side of Hawthorne Boulevard.

It is bounded by Hawthorne Blvd on the east Torrance Blvd on the north, Sepulveda Blvd. on the south and Howard and Albert avenues on the west just east of the Redondo Beach city limits
